Are there ginkgo biloba trees in the Philippines?

Is anybody taking ginkgo biloba and does it help enhance memory lower blood pressure, cholesterol and improve blood circulation?

Are there ginkgo biloba trees in the Philippines?
This is a Chinease staple herb and has been used in Chinease medicine for centuries. I%26#039;m not aware that you can get this in the Philippines, but it is carried world wide and can be shipped anywhere with problem.

It%26#039;s known to enhance metal alertness and brain function, improve memory, regulate the heart and improve blood circulation through the blood vessels. It can also help with hearing loss, Asthma, Dementia, Impotence caused by use of Prozac and similar antidepressnts, Premenstrual syndrome, Vision loss related to aging and inner-ear disorders.
Reply:From my own personal experience, the section that dandelion copy/pasted is correct. It%26#039;s very good for mental support because it actually increases blood flow to the brain. This helps to bring oxygen and other nutrients to all sorts of things in the head (brain, eyes, ears, etc), which is why it helps with so many things.

Most distributors that sell Ginkgo will send things to anywhere in the world, but international shipping tends to get expensive. I%26#039;d suggest looking for some in local stores first, then check with companies in China, Hong Kong, Japan, Australia and most of the countries that are closest to you (as shorter distances for shipping tend to be lower cost)... just make sure you get a good quality company.

Does taking Ginkgo biloba really improve our memory? Why?

Is Ginkgo better then yellow ginger, for improving memory and brain functions?

Does taking Ginkgo biloba really improve our memory? Why?
It improves circulation to everywhere including the brain. There was enough evidence for an NIH to do a 15 million dollar study which was started but never finished. Herbs are whole foods and good for you.
Reply:It can improve memory by improving circulation above the neck. The effects generally take 3-6 months of regular use and are mainly beneficial if you actually have a circulation problem that is restricting blood flow in the first place.

Bottom line is that the science is there. Morons will cite negative studies that are actually based on single molecule extracts or synthetic copies of an assumed %26quot;therapeutic agent.%26quot;

In the end, it will work for some and not for others. That%26#039;s how it is with all drugs too.
Reply:Yes it is awesome for you.
Reply:hey this is a fantastic product it increases blood flow to the brain which we really need. This helps boost memory due to the extra blood and oxygen flow to the brain.

Do all ginkgo pills smell bad?

I%26#039;ve been taking ginkgo tablets because I heard that they boost brain power. And it appears to be working -- based on my astute and intelligent answers here :-) But do they all have to smell putrid? Maybe I%26#039;ve got the wrong brand -- I bought these at Sam%26#039;s club (there are like a 1000 pills in here.) thanks!

Do all ginkgo pills smell bad?
try Natures Bounty Ginko Biloba, they are in capsules, not tablets so they don%26#039;t smell..you can pick them up at walgreens.
Reply:I took Milk Thrstle and Red Clover pills awhile ago and they smell bad too, it%26#039;s not the brand. Many herbal pills just don%26#039;t smell good, just hold your nose when your taking them.

You could try buying a different brand, if those smell the same then you know that the herb itself is just not pleasantly smelling.

Unfortunatly not all herbal remedies can smell like Roses.

Anybody taking Ginkgo Biloba for depression or know how much to take?

I can not find much on the internet about Ginkgo Biloba, but I found that it is one of the 5 herbs that are most benifical to help people with depression. I just need to know a little more about it and how much to take per day.

Anybody taking Ginkgo Biloba for depression or know how much to take?
see a doctor
Reply:Ginko Biloba is herb wich have effect on better circulation of the blood in brain so with that and memory. I now that %26quot;Natural Wealth%26quot; firm manufactured pils with same name Ginko Biloba, and they say that 1 pill is enough for all day.
Reply:I never heard of GB being used for depression (which I have) - maybe you%26#039;re thinking of valerian root. Health stores usually have books you can look thru that give you dosages of supplements and herbs for various conditions
Reply:i take two pills of the stuff, but i also take it for memory,
Reply:Ginko has been touted more for its memory boosting ability than for relieving depression, but it is believed to boost oxygen, and aid in blood flow. Diminished blood flow has been linked to depression.

Be sure that you buy Ginko extracts that contain at least 24% flavone glycosides (organic substances responsible for the herbs antioxidant and anti clotting properties) and 6% terpene lactones (primarily chemicals called ginkgolides and bilobalides, which improve blood flow and are thought to protect the nerves`

Gink is expensive:

Natures Resource is a good choice that doesnt cost alot. It may be called Nature Made Herbals in your area and can be found at Wal-Mart or any local Pharmacy or health food store

Take 120 mg of Ginko daily divided up into two or three doses a day for general memory boosting or poor circulation.

Take up to 240 mg a day divided up into two or three doses for depression Alzheimer%26#039;s, ringing in the ears, dizziness, impotence.

It commonly take 4-6 weeks and sometime up to 12 weeks to notice this herbs effects. It is considered safe for long term use in recommended doses.

You can take it with or without food.

Possible side effects in rare cases are irritablity, restlessness, diarrhea, nausea, or vomiting, though usually mild and transient. You may experience a headache the first day or two. If these symptoms persist discontinue it or lower the dose.

Dont use unprocessed Ginko leaves in any form, including teas; they contain potent chemicals {allergens} that can trigger allergic reactions. Stick with standardized extracts. If you have a medical condition, like diabetes or some other serious illness consult your doctor before taking supplements

Are Ginkgoflavoglycosides the same as ginkgo-flavon-glycosides?
I%26#039;m pretty sure they are. I checked a number of supplements that have each as an ingredient. They usually have 24% in the ginkgo extract along with terpene lactones. None of them have both ingredients.

Prevent Ginkgo tree from bearing fruits?

The ginkgo tree in front of my house bears a lot of fruits (nuts) every year which have very bad smell. Can I spray something to prevent it from bearing fruits?

Prevent Ginkgo tree from bearing fruits?
Ginkgo trees are diecious, meaning they have male and female reproductive parts on different trees. If yours is bearing fruit then its female. Your only solution is to replace it with a male.
Reply:it%26#039;s a female tree. you have to cut down the male trees in the area to prevent your tree from being pollinated. WARNING: people might want to keep their clean male trees!!

Ginkgo and birth control?

would taking ginkgo biloba weaken the effectiveness

of birth control?

Ginkgo and birth control?
Should be fine to take together but I would avoid taking them at the same time period.

As far as I am aware, the only thing you have to be careful with as far as Gingko goes is DO NOT ever take it with any blood thinning medications such as aspirin or spontaneous bleeding could occur.

It is St Johns Wort that you have to avoid whilst on birth control. This herb increases the enzyme in the liver that breaks down hormone thous reducing the concentration of hormone in the blood.

As answered by a Herbalist with a PhD, so presumably most knowledgeable in this area:

(quote)%26quot;A: There is no credible research or report suggesting an effect of ginkgo on birth control.%26quot;(unquote)

Plus it is not listed in this herb-drug (birth control) interactions table from the American Botanical Council%26#039;s Mayo Clinic Complementary and Integrative Medicine Program:

Did anyone use Ginkgo Biloba/Ginseng impotence? How much these herbal remedies helped? was cure permanent?
Ginkgo biloba, known as the maidenhair tree, is one of the oldest trees on Earth, once part of the flora of the Mesozoic period. The ginkgo tree is the only surviving species of the Ginkgoaceae family. This ancient deciduous tree may live for thousands of years. Ginkgo is indigenous to China, Japan, and Korea, but also thrived in North America and Europe prior to the Ice Age. This drastic climate change destroyed the wild ginkgo tree throughout much of the world. In China, ginkgo was cultivated in temple gardens as a sacred tree known as bai gou, thus assuring its survival there for over 200 million years. Ginkgo fossils found from the Permian period are identical to the living tree, which is sometimes called a living fossil.

Ginkgo nuts bad for your health?

I heard that eating a large amount of ginkgo nuts (5-10 pieces per day) can do serious damage to your brain. Is this true?

Ginkgo nuts bad for your health?
No, it is not true.

Gingko biloba, is a plant that contains variable amounts of the alkaloid quercetine and campherol, in the form of glycosides,

Those substances, act as dilators of the small vessels, such as those of brain and retina (like in cases of vertigo for low oxygenation, or diabetic retinitis for example)....

However, the nuts containing those alkaloids, are too variable in contents (normal dose of gingko biloba is 40 mgs TDS) there is no way to establish the real amount thet you are ingesting with 5-10 nuts of the plant, because the contents of the active substance vary considerably from one batch to the next (as it happens in most of drugs extracted from plants)

Nothing will happen to you ingesting such small amounts of the fruit, however gingko biloba is contraindicated in recent brain hemorrhages, miocardial infarction, and sever high blood pressure.

Another interesting thing about the plant and its alkaloids, is that you will develop tolerance (i.e. no effect) after 4-5 months of ingesting the same amount.

The plant has nothing to do with brain damage, but on the other hand, there is no clear benefit of the naturistic plan that you are asking about.

I would take the measured tablets, if I were you, and if there is a clear indication that you need indeed a vasodilator...

Cheers

Ginkgo tree?

I have a ginkgo female tree in the front yard. It came with the house when we brought. How can I get rid of the fruits not the tree ? YEs, the fruits are stinky !!!They are too much works to pick them up. My Chinese friend didn%26#039;t come back to pick them up. The nuts are good and expensive in Chinese food market. Please help !!!

Ginkgo tree?
Ginkgo trees come in both male and female varieties, and as you know, female trees are a real problem in residential landscapes, so most reputable dealers will only sell males. Since your tree came with your house, I wish there was better advice I could give you, but there is no way to stop the tree from producing fruit. If you really can%26#039;t stand the fruit, you%26#039;ll have to remove the tree. If you contact a nursery in the area, they might be able to help you with removing it, and who knows, maybe they%26#039;ll feel bad and give you a discount on a male tree. Good luck!
Reply:Hire someone to clean them up, then offset the cost against what you sell them for to the Chinese food market. At least that way they go to someone who wants them.
Reply:Are you sure it%26#039;s a ginkgo? Mine doesn%26#039;t produce anything!
Reply:i lived on a block, in Madison, that was lined with fruiting Ginkos, I loved it, how grateful I was to get pure Ginko

I also had a Chinese friend who taught me how to prepare them

just get the word out around your town that you have pure, fresh Ginko, I bet they%26#039;d be cleaned up for you regularly
Reply:LOL! I have a female way out back...smells like dog doo!

But why don%26#039;t you pick up and clean the fruit. Then sell it yourself for good money at an Asian Market.

Here in Massachusetts, the ground cover weed purcelain goes for $8.00 a pound!

Nasty little crab apples are 3.00 a pound.

Also, I love the Asian Markets, the food and music and religious diversity is a wonderful learning experience!

Not just Chinese, but South East Asian countries, and some folks from India will frequent the market.

The cooking smell, and the colors, and the smiles are all worth the experience .
Reply:the only way i know is to remove the tree.
Reply:You may want to look into something called olive stop or florel it makes the flowers abour from the tree therefore producing less fruit. Make sure you read the lable very carefully. The timming of when to apply the material is just before it is in flower as it is setting bud.

You might want to consider Memory Optimizer. It provides support for improved memory, learning, and overall brain health. This proprietary formula combines bacopa monnieri and vinpocetine, two clinically proven ingredients that provide dietary support to enhance memory and cognitive function. Bacopa, traditionally used in India, improves memory and the ability to learn new information. Vinpocetine has been widely used in Europe and Japan to enhance blood flow, glucose utilization, and has been shown to increase oxygen uptake to the brain. Also contains polygala, an herb traditionally used in China for brain health. The complementary herbs and naturally sourced compounds in Memory Optimizer can improve memory function, increase your ability to learn new information and help you to stay sharp.

How do I plant the seed to grow more ginkgo trees?

How to plant ginkgo seed?
Don%26#039;T!!!!

I did this in Massachusetts! I fell in love with an old Ginko tree and harvested the seeds. I planted them just under a light layer of earth and warmed the bottom of the seed pots with a heating pad. They all germinated! I planted theseedlings close to the house and on the SOUTH SIDE FOR 3 YEARS. Then I planted them out on the property!

That was my big mistake!

Ginkos come in Male and Female! When the femals start to reproduce heavily, the dropped rotting fruit smells like Dog @h!T

How ever it takes 10 years or better for the trees to grow and mature enough to tell male from female. Then you are stuck cutting down the females so they don%26#039;t stink out the entire neighborhood!

As long as you buy natural ones, there should be no side effects or interactions with any herbal supplement. The cheaply made ones have chemicals and even sometimes tar as binders and fillers. If you have a reaction it should be only from the by products used in manufacturing.

Ginkgo biloba, How long before I see it working?

Ive started taking these Ginkgo biloba 60mg tablets once a day today im 20 yrs old, How long do you think it will take for me to start seeing results in my brain function

Ginkgo biloba, How long before I see it working?
You should notice a difference nearly immediately (maybe after 15 minutes). Upon taking Ginkgo Biloba, the brain receives more blood and oxygen. If you take one tablet daily, your memory and concentration will temporarily be enhanced. Of course you will only notice difference when you try to concentrate fiercely on one subject such as memorizing things or deep concentration required skills. When one frequently consumes Ginkgo Biloba, he may also conserve better brain health. The chance one ends up with Alzheimer%26#039;s becomes smaller.

If you experience any negative side effects, you should quit taking it immediately.

Take 120 milligrams a day in divided doses with food.

I saw this Episode and as I recall the owners had a local Craftsman design two of the lanterns/lamps especially for them.

I%26#039;m sure that is why you are unable to locate any after your search.

Check out Big Lots or any Home Improvement Store and I bet you would find a basic lamp like that. I have seen similar type lanterns at Home Depot in their outdoor lighting section.

You could have someone do the leaf design on it or if you are creative you could do it yourself.

Is Ginkgo helpful?
Ginkgo was first used by Chinese in herbal medicine over three thousand years ago. Modern studies have identified its active ingredients. The standardized ginkgo extract is approved as a prescription drug in Europe to treat memory impairment related to aging and dementia and to treat problems caused by poor circulation and is among the best selling drugs. The standardized ginkgo extract is a top selling herbal supplement in USA

Ginkgo Biloba is likely the most studied herb in clinical trials in USA and Europe. Many health benefits of Ginkgo Biloba have been explored. These benefits include improvement of mental performance in dementia of Alzheimer%26#039;s disease, memory improvement of age-associated memory impairment, memory enhancement in healthy elderly people, treatment of peripheral vascular disease, reduction of tinnitus, and prevention of acute mountain sickness.

• Clinical trials support that Ginkgo Biloba may slow down and even improve memory impairment in patients suffering Alzheimer%26#039;s disease or multi-infarct dementia.

• Laboratory studies have shed lights on the how Ginkgo Biloba may benefit Alzheimer%26#039;s disease.

• Clinical trials support that Ginkgo Biloba may improve declining memory and learning, reduced alertness, and dizziness due to aging in patients with Age-Associated Memory Impairment (Age-Related Cognitive Decline, Cerebral Insufficiency).

• Clinical trials suggest that Ginkgo Biloba may enhance memory, improve mental alertness in healthy adults as well.

• Clinical trials support that Ginkgo Biloba may increase walking distances and reduce recurring pain in walking due to the peripheral vascular disease (intermittent claudication).

• Trials have not yet found significant benefits of Ginkgo Biloba on reducing ringing in the ears occurred in tinnitus.

• Ginkgo Biloba is reported to prevent acute mountain sickness (altitude sickness) due to oxygen reduction in high altitudes for climbers and skiers

B6 and sublingual B12 are also good.

Try taking magnesium at bedtime too.

Is ginkgo biloba a mild MAOI?

I was reading that ginkgo biloba is a mild MAOI but, there was no evidence to support this statement. And i couldn%26#039;t find anything on this subject. So, is ginkgo biloba a mild MAOI?

Is ginkgo biloba a mild MAOI?
Medical uses

The extract of the Ginkgo leaves contains flavonoid glycosides and ginkgolides and has been used pharmaceutically. It has many alleged nootropic properties, and is mainly used as memory enhancer and anti-vertigo agent. However, studies differ about its efficacy.

Out of the many conflicting research results, there seem to be basically three effects of Ginkgo extract on the human body: it improves blood flow (including microcirculation in small capillaries) to most tissues and organs; it protects against oxidative cell damage from free radicals (antioxidant); and it blocks many of the effects of PAF (platelet aggregation, blood clotting) that have been related to the development of a number of cardiovascular, renal, respiratory and CNS (Central Nervous System) disorders. Ginkgo can be used for intermittent claudication.

A 2004 conference paper [6] summarises how various trials indicate that Ginkgo shows promise in the treatment of Alzheimer%26#039;s disease, although further study is needed.

Ginkgo is commonly added to energy drinks, but the amount is typically so low it does not produce a noticeable effect, except perhaps via a placebo effect from Ginkgo being listed on the label.

Ginkgo should also not be used by people who are taking monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOI) or by pregnant women without first consulting a doctor.

The best I can tell is that Ginko should not be taken with an MAOI. MAOI%26#039;s are icky drugs that are incompatible with almost everything. They were one of the first antidepressants to be discovered and have been replaced by many of the newer antidepressants with less side effects. When your taking them you can%26#039;t have many meats, dairy products and don%26#039;t go near alcohol products of any sort. This is like most antidepressants (alcohol) but they MAOI%26#039;s have sever and sudden reactions to simple everyday things

Check out this site:

Monoamine oxidase (MAO) inhibition by ginkgo was reported in one animal study, but has not been confirmed in humans. In theory, if taken with MAOI drugs, such as isocarboxazid (Marplan®), phenelzine (Nardil®), or tranylcypromine (Parnate®), additive effects and side effects may occur. Based on laboratory research, ginkgo may also add to the effects of SSRI antidepressants such as sertraline (Zoloft®), with an increased risk of causing serotonin syndrome, a condition characterized by stiff muscles, fast heart rate, hyperthermia, restlessness, and sweating.

I guess that%26#039;s why wikipedia says that gingko shouldn%26#039;t be taken with MAOIs:

Not that much of a surprise, really. There%26#039;s lots of things that can%26#039;t be taken in conjunction with MAOIs.

Ginkgo biloba to counteract SSRI side effect?

Hi, I am taking Zoloft for panic disorder and have discovered the unpleasesant sexual side effects. I read promising things on the web about ginkgo and how many people have found it to be very helpful in this situation. Can anyone recommend a specific brand of ginkgo? I found the recommended dosage but it is a little hard to match everything up in one brand. Or if anyone has found any other positive ways to counteract this, I would appreciate hearing about it! Thanks!!!

Ginkgo biloba to counteract SSRI side effect?
First of all, I%26#039;m sorry to see the other answers have been a bit rude. Some people do need SSRIs, and they do have sexual side effects (lessened sensation being the most common).

Ginkgo, however, will not help you in this situation. It primarily benefits memory, concentration and mental focus in older individuals.

Before recommending a natural or herbal remedy to assist with your problem, it is important to know whether you have other medical conditions such as low thyroid, autoimmune disease, or high blood pressure. Certain herbs are contraindicated for those conditions, and certain herbs are contraindicated for individuals taking SSRIs.

If you do NOT have any of the above-listed medical conditions, some herbs that would be of benefit (if you are female) include Ashwagandha and Maca. If you are male and do NOT have any of the above-listed conditions, Yohimbe is also helpful.

I would strongly advise visiting a health food store and consulting with a *QUALIFIED* herbalist or nutritionist before you take any herbal remedy. Just because it%26#039;s natural doesn%26#039;t mean it%26#039;s safe for YOU....herbs must be treated with the same respect as a prescription medication.

You may also want to consider topical applications that assist with arousal. There are many excellent natural brands; again, your health food store can best recommend one to suit you.

Ginkgo biloba?

Can anyone take Ginkgo Biloba.

I already take a complete supplement, can I take a Ginkgo supplemtent at the same time?

Ginkgo biloba?
sure
Reply:I do with no adverse side effects.

However you should always consult your doctor first as there can be adverse side effects depending on other medications etc. that you may be taking.
Reply:Maybe you won%26#039;t have the same reaction to Ginkgo Biloba that I did, but I found myself almost drowning in my own vomit twice in one night after taking three doses of 40 mg throughout a single day. This never happened to me before I took it, or since I stopped taking it.

One of the side effects is nausea, so I guess that%26#039;s the cause for me.
Reply:Yup; no problems between the 2.
Reply:Ginko Biloba is called a living fossil.

Ginko biloba is famous for aiding the body in stimulating blood flow. increased blood flow to the brain increases your mental acuity.

I see no reason why you could not take them together.

As with all herbs start slowly in the morning to make sure there will be no adverse side effects.

I found that out the hard way when I tried to to take feverfew as a preventative for migranes. Before I knew it; my throat started constricting and my tongue started swelling, and breathing was difficuly for a few hours; but I never took any more feverfew.

Ginkgo Tree?

I think the Ginkgo Tree are the foulest smelling berries I have ever encounter. Who thinks the berries from the Ginkgo are delicious?

Ginkgo Tree?
Never plant these, unless you want to take the chance that it is a female, which produces those rank fruits. The male trees don%26#039;t, but the tree is mature by the time its gender is evident. So cut the thing down and plant something else.
Reply:Yeah, they smell like something died. That%26#039;s why the male trees are more popular that the female trees. Male trees make pollen, not fruit, so they don%26#039;t stink.
Reply:I don%26#039;t know if they are or not. I kill every plant I get.

5-HTP and Ginkgo Biloba?

Hi..just want to know if there is any good or bad interaction taking 5-HTP and Ginkgo Biloba together for depression?

5-HTP and Ginkgo Biloba?
I sure as heck don%26#039;t know. I don%26#039;t think any of us do. That%26#039;s a question for a fully-qualified psychiatrist. My first guess would be that Ginkgo wouldn%26#039;t cause any problems just since they%26#039;re both naturally occurring, but that%26#039;s just A GUESS. Ask your doctor next chance you get if you%26#039;re not sure, and until then hold off on the Ginkgo.

Which Ginkgo Biloba is the best?

I%26#039;ve taken ginkgo biloba in the past and noticed it significantly helped my memory and thinking when taken consistantly. I want to get back in the habit of taking it again, but I find myself bombarded by a vast array of different qualities and quanities on amazon. So, maybe someone else can help me, whats the best ginkgo biloba (for memory purposes) which is also the best value (considering price %26amp; quantity).

Thank you %26amp; any other information or remedies about increasing my memory would be greatly appreciated!

Which Ginkgo Biloba is the best?
I recommend all natural Mental Acuity Plus. It not only contains ginkgo, but also bilberry, hawthorn, and B vitamins. Along with enhancing memory and decision-making, it also lowers homocysteine levels for cardiovascular health.

Also, there%26#039;s Memory Optimizer which increases and maintains memory function, improves ability to learn new information, increases blood and oxygen flow to the brain and supports overall brain health.

Hope this is helpful and feel free to contact me with questions.

St. John's Wort with Ginkgo Biloba?

I am currently taken St. John%26#039;s Wort. Is it okay to take it with Ginkgo Biloba? I have a problem with focusing on tasks, so that is why I am asking. And should I take Ginkgo in the morning or evening? I am currently taking St. John%26#039;s Wort before bedtime. Thanks for any advice.

St. John%26#039;s Wort with Ginkgo Biloba?
Yes, you can. St. John%26#039;s Wort increases serotonin, that%26#039;s how it works to help with sleep and mood. DHA, an omega 3 fatty acid, by itself or found in fish oil helps with concetration too. Ginkgo is more for memory. Choline, found in b vitamins or by itself also helps with focusing. If you stick with ginkgo, then take 60 mg twice a day for starters, then increase to 120mg if that doesn%26#039;t seem to work. But I would really suggest DHA and Choline.
Reply:Have you tried omega 3 fish oil that%26#039;s meant 2 be very good 4 concentration.worth a try.Just i think you have 2 be careful what you take when taking St.johns wort.

Quality of Ginkgo Biloba Plus from GNC?

About 6 months ago I got a horrible full body itchy rash I wouldn%26#039;t wish on my worst enemies from taking Ginkgo Biloba Plus from GNC (also contains Gotu Kola Herb Powder, Eleuthero Root and Lecithin.) Ginko Biloba by itself does not do this to me at all.

I tried to complain at the store but they have no system in place to receive complaints. They only told me to consult my physician before taking any GNC products, and I remain angry!

Has anyone else had any bad experience with GNC quality or with Ginko Biloba Plus pills? This is a serious problem I had.

Quality of Ginkgo Biloba Plus from GNC?
I have used several products from GNC, including the Ginkgo Biloba Plus, and found them to be of excellent quality. It%26#039;s not unusual to have an allergic reaction to Ginkgo, and the fact that you reacted could well be proof of the purity of GNC%26#039;s Ginkgo. I have seen a relative brake out in a rash from Ginkgo, and that was another brand. You might want to try taking a portion of the contents of the capsule. I had to do that with their Yohimbe capsules, which is again an indication of the purity of the product. It might also be the case that you have an allergy for one of the other ingredients.

French Ginkgo biloba study and dementia - what exactly was "some other type of memory enhancing treatment "?

Dr. Jean-Francois Dartigues at the University of Bordeaux and colleagues found.

Dartigues and his team note that Ginkgo biloba extract has been sold in France for more than three decades to enhance memory. To date, they add, most studies have focused on whether the herb prevents dementia, but because older people have a much greater risk of dying, dementia-free survival should also be included as an outcome.

The researchers looked at the effect of several different dementia prevention treatments on the study participants, collecting data when the study began, in 1988, and every 2 years thereafter.

At the start of the study, 6.4 percent of the participants were taking Ginkgo biloba extract, while 25.1 percent were taking some other type of memory enhancing treatment. After 13 years, 53.1 percent had died and 17.6 percent had developed dementia.

About half of people who took no memory enhancing treatment died, compared with 46.7 percent of those taking Gingko biloba and 62.1 percent of those taking some other type of memory-boosting drug. Among those on Gingko biloba, 21.4 percent developed dementia, compared with 22.4 percent of those on other memory treatments and 15.5 percent of those who were not taking memory enhancers.

The researchers found that while the effect of the herb on mortality risk remained significant, it had no effect on the likelihood of developing dementia. People taking other memory treatments were actually at increased risk of dementia, but did not have a greater risk of dying.

These results should be interpreted carefully, the researchers note, because people taking Gingko or other memory enhancers at the beginning of the study may have been at greater risk of dementia than those who weren%26#039;t taking such treatment.

%26quot;Nevertheless, it cannot be excluded that Ginkgo biloba may have a beneficial effect on survival in the elderly population,%26quot; they write.

The results must be confirmed in randomized, prospective clinical trials in which people taking the extract are compared to those who aren%26#039;t, the researchers add. They point out that there are currently over 5,800 people taking part in such studies in the US and Europe, with results expected in 2010.

Everything can be helped with improved circulation.

Ginkgo has been seen as an effective treatment, as have many homeopathic remedies.
Reply:It kind of depends on why you have the tinnitus. Do you have fluid in your ears? Ginko won%26#039;t help that.
Reply:According to a research group that follows such things, ginkgo has a %26quot;C%26quot; rating for tinitus. That means that there is at least some evidence (inconclusive) that ginkgo will help tinitus.

So, I suggest you give it a try. Choose a good brand. A great place to research brands is http://www.nutritionaltree.com.
Reply:um, after you have started it, has it stopped? or does the ringing come and go?

I do agree with you, I doubt any serious study has ever been done to back up your doc%26#039;s claim.
Reply:Jen D has the right idea... Ginkgo helps increase circulation to your head, and that includes all areas of your head (including the delicate tissues in your ear). It may take some time (possibly a few months to several months) to notice a difference because your body is trying to repair the damage, but it can be done.

And there actually have been studies done on this over time, and the general population does notice an increase of benefits for tinnitus that is based from ear damage. In fact, there are combination products on the market for the ears that include Ginkgo because of this. The biggest problem that people run into is that it%26#039;s not going to act quickly or show benefits within a few weeks.... this is more closely related to Calcium healing a broken leg (giving the nutrients so your body can heal itself) and will take a good amount of time. Good luck!

Will Ginkgo baloba and Glutathione be affective if i drink?
Drinking once a week won%26#039;t make a difference. Even better, I read once that ginkgo biloba might have some protective effects for the liver against alcohol. Not a license to go out and binge drink, but I wouldn%26#039;t worry about the two interacting negatively. Glutathione, too, plays a role in detoxing alcohol from your liver. I doubt that one night of LIGHT drinking will deplete your glutathione levels too much.

Much glutathione is destroyed in the stomach before it gets in to your system, so taking it orally isn%26#039;t always going to help you. Other ways to support glutathione production are vitamin C, alpha lipoic acid and undenatured whey protein.

Drink in moderation if you wish. It wouldn%26#039;t hurt to stop, either.
Reply:Of course it will still work. Be careful of the brand though. You might read the Supplement Buying Guide at NutritionalTree before buying.
Reply:They should still be effective, as long as you%26#039;re drinking moderately.
Reply:My experience of Ginko Biloba is that it seems quite strong as I have taken ginseng too and this does similar things only the Gingko seems buzzier for want of a better word, so MAYBE it is only required when you feel you need the boost and not everyday, depends.

Interestingly ginko biloba does the same as Warfren the treatment used for heart irregularity, to keep the blood flowing regularly.

The Chinese swear by these herbs.
Reply:Hi Ricky,

I don%26#039;t see a problem with having a drink once a week. Ginkgo baloba is great for the memory and Glutathione is the body%26#039;s Major antioxidant. The only problem is that Glutathione can%26#039;t be absorbed through the stomach. We also stop producing Glutathione by 10% per decade after the age of 20. Therefore we start to age and are prone to disease due to inflammation from the lack of Glutathione. Recently a brilliant scientist has developed Glutathione in capsule form which is readily absorbed into the body and actually restores Glutathione levels in the body. I would be happy to share more about this brilliant product with you, the benefits are endless. Please email me. I have RA also and I really need to talk to you.

Acidity, WORRY, sadness, excessive wind, cold , heat, sour food and sinusitis, constipation, intestinal inflammation; drug side effects, stress, bad smell, TV %26amp; COMPUTER SOMETIMES, Blockage in the flow of Vital Energy, BODY CONSTITUTION etc are their causes.

None of them can be treated with medicine.

Pain killers don%26#039;t treat the pain but we loose the sense of pain for some time; in that duration our body itself treats sometime and credit goes to meds.

In conjunction with powdered cayenne(chili) and extra virgin olive oil rubbed directly on the areas afflicted can reduce the arthritis immensely. %26quot;Initial results often take 4 - 6 weeks, but should continue to accumulate beyond that period. %26quot; So I%26#039;m not sure if taking it once a week is enough to have an effect, but you have to take it continually for over a month to see initial results! Hope that helps!

Is Ginkgo Biloba safe to take when you're on 3 Blood Pressure Medicine?

Also is Ginkgo Biloba a blood thiner? Same questions for Gotu Cola?

Is Ginkgo Biloba safe to take when you%26#039;re on 3 Blood Pressure Medicine?
Ginkgo biloba stimulates cerebral circulation and oxygenation, and improves mental clarity, alertness and memory by increasing blood flow in the small capillaries in the brain.

Side-Effects - Adverse effects related to ginkgo are relatively mild and infrequent and include nausea, headache, diarrhea, dizziness and occasional allergic dermatologic reactions. However, rare cases of hematomas and bleeding have been reported. Ginkgo biloba does not interact with any drug, so it can be taken regularly.

Counter-Indicators - Ginkgo%26#039;s antiplatelet effect should be considered if the patient is taking other agents with similar blood-thinning actions. Tell your physician if you are taking Ginkgo, and do not vary the dose without telling him.

Gotu kola improves memory and increases mental stamina.Treats burns and wounds.

Builds connective tissue, and strengthens veins.

Pregnant women or those who are trying to conceive should not use gotu kola.

Do not take with sedatives or tranquilizers.
Reply:Ginkgo Biloba improves blood flow to the organs, and does not react negatively with other blood thinners.
Reply:No Ginkgo is a antioxident which does thin your blood so it would be like doubling up on your blood medicine. I over did my antioxidents a couple months ago. If you start getting a throbbing pain by your left temple you may have over done the blood thinners and antioxidents and need to check with the doc.
Reply:Ginkgo--Improves memory, concentration; patient may think more clearly. Overcomes sexual dysfunction occurring with SSRI antidepressants. May be able to slow progress of Alzheimer%26#039;s disease, improve intermittent claudication. Interactions--May increase bleeding time with aspirin, dipyridamole, warfarin. Precautions--Avoid use in those taking anticoagulants or those hypersensitive to poison ivy, cashews, mangos. Side effects--GI disturbances, headache, dizziness, vertigo. So to answer your question %26quot;Is Ginkgo Biloba safe to take when you%26#039;re on 3 Blood Pressure Medicine%26quot;, yes. %26quot;Is Gingko a blood thinner%26quot;, yes.

Gotu kola--Improves memory, intelligence, venous insufficiency, wound or burn healing, psoriasis. Interactions--None known. Precautions--GI upset, nausea, pruritis, photosensitivity. So Gotu kola is safe to take with BP meds. And is not an anticoagulant.
Reply:My friend, if u r taking any prescriped drugs,,,,,,,,,please talk with doctor about first,,,,,,,if could have bad reactions, or not let drug for BP be as effective.

Reply:Ginkgo won%26#039;t really help you unless you are a 80 year old with serious cognitive degradation. it%26#039;s doesn%26#039;t make a young brain better. try eating healthier, and get on a good sleep wake schedule. if that doesn%26#039;t help you might be iron deficient not enough blood getting to your brain. there are many problem that can affect memory, it may just be you have trained yourself to have a bad memory, you need to practice good memory making skills. look on line for some tips. :) Google it. %26quot; memory tips%26quot;
Reply:I buy ginko biloba at WalMart. I can%26#039;t remember how much it costs but it%26#039;s reasonable (less than $10 for a 3 month supply). Ginko isn%26#039;t just for memory improvement, but by helping to circulate blood better to all extremities, it does help your brain by bringing more oxygen. I use ginko to help with an inner ear problem.

You have to be careful with ginko biloba because it is an anti-coagulant which means it thins your blood and could result in more bleeding if you have a cut or if you have surgery. Try not to take it with other anti-coagulants like aspirin and astragalus.

Ginkgo tree stopped growing... why?

I found some ginkgo seeds about four months ago, planted them, and one of them grew. It got about four inches high, with four leaves, and then stopped. Since then, one of the leaves has fallen off. It%26#039;s been about two months since it showed any progress, I even re-potted it to see if that would help.

Any ideas on how to help it grow? I%26#039;m growing it indoors, so I didn%26#039;t think it would be because it%26#039;s winter time...

Ginkgo tree stopped growing... why?
I would think that you have two factors at play. Number one would be the amount of light available to a growing tree indoors, especially during winter and second would be the nutrition that is available to the tree. Regular potting soil wouldn%26#039;t be enough for a tree - you need to add bonemeal and the like in order to beef up any potting soil.

The only other thing I can think of is that your seeds didn%26#039;t grow at all.. and it was weeds or something in the soil that grew and thats why you have something so small.

Ginkgo biloba? I get bad headaches when I took this?

I was taking a ginkgo biloba supplement for memory to help me study in college. and a week later I noticed I was getting really bad headaches and the only thing I could link it to was this supplement.

I need help with memory and concentration but need advice on what I can take.

has anyone ever gotten a headache or other side effects from gingko biloba? is this common???

Ginkgo biloba? I get bad headaches when I took this?
It doesn%26#039;t really matter whether others have suffered the same effect; the important thing is that ginko biloba does not work well for you. You should stop taking it.

Have you tried memory training exercises? I%26#039;ve added a link to one below from the BBC; I%26#039;m sure a google search will turn up more.
Reply:It makes me sick to my stomach i cant take it. In my opinion none of that stuff works alot of it only shows benifits because you%26#039;ve tricked your mind into thinking it should, mind over matter is quite powerfull. Try relaxing and meditation b 4 you study.

Dollar store ginkgo?

I just bought some ginkgo at the dollar store. I was wondering if it as good as the expensive ginkgo you can buy at vitamin stores.

The brand name is Health Care and it is at 300mg.

Dollar store ginkgo?
do some background checks on it. If its a dollar, it usually means it was made in a low quality factory, so you could get contamination. sure, you save money, but if you get really sick, the hospital bill will well surpass that.
Reply:It will be fine.

There are a lot of manuafcturers aout there making a fortune by calling their product better than or more soluable than or more potent than anyone elses.

It is what it is.
Reply:Being in the nutrition field - no not all products are the same.

Just like any consumer product, there is always going to be a difference - does car x perform the same as car y.

Remember currently there is no governing agency regulating supplements - some companies use this to their advantage, some are actually interested in the consumer.
